On August 1st, nearly 2,000 guests visited the San Mateo County Event Center to attend the annual Emergency Preparedness Day hosted by the County’s Department of Emergency Management.
This free event provided a vast array of information and resources for the community to better prepare to respond to emergencies and recover from them faster. Offerings included hands on learning in CPR, first aid, home hardening, and fire extinguisher use. Visitors had the opportunity to donate blood and learn how to cook in an emergency. Dozens of community organizations were on hand to provide information about local resources, planning tips, and volunteer opportunities.
Preparation support for fires, earthquakes, chemical leaks, and weather events makes a community more able to cope and recover; fairgrounds are the perfect place to bring all facets of a community together for this important purpose.
